A Seven Point Guide To Help Your Bullied Child
The following 7 points are an action plan to help with the bullying problem.
These are questions you must find out the answers to, either by yourself or from
the school, to help solve your child's bullying problem.
1.) What was the location of the incident? (i.e. bus, hallway, playground, internet, cell, etc.)
2.) Type of bullying. (i.e. physical, verbal, sexual, race, gender based, cyber, etc.)
3.) Severity. (On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the most severe)
How does the child/parent/school staff, rate this bullying incident?
4.) Parties involved. (boy on boy, girl on girl, boy on girl, girl on boy, etc. with names)
5.) Adults contacted. (parent, teachers, counselors, bus driver, principal, etc.)
6.) Action taken/actions to be taken. (Witnesses interviewed - such as other students, parents notified, suspension, counseling, additional supervision, police notification)
7.) Follow-up. (Parent-teacher conference, continued communication with parent, etc.)
NOTE: To further protect your child, contact your child's school and request all of your
child's school files, including all conversations, discipline actions, grades and any other
pertinent information pertaining to your child's school activities.
By law the school must provide this upon your request.
We also suggest keeping a daily journal of what your child relates to you as to how their
day went. (both good and bad) Take notes, take names, take pictures of any
bruises or scratches and why your child has them. Share these notes with your school
and ask them if they are aware of these incidents and what they are going to do about them.
Respectful and open communication between parents and school is the key to creating
a safe and healthy place for children to learn. We firmly believe that both parents and
school staff alike have your child's well being in mind.
If we work together - we better serve our children.
